Tadka Khichdi with Gujarati Kadhi - Soulful meal in Rainy season 


Ghee tadka of dalchini (cinnamon) and jeera for the khichdi with khati meethi Gujarati kadhi is the most soulful and easy to cook meal


Ingredients: 

  1. Khichdi ingredients -
  2. 1 cup rice,
  3. 3 tablespoon of toor dal,
  4. to taste, salt
  5. 1/2 tsp haldi
  6. and for the tadka of the khichadi
  7. 1 tablespoon ghee,
  8. 1 small piece of cinnamon,
  9. 1 tsp jeera
  10. pinch hing
  11. Guajarati kadhi ingredients -
  12. 1 cup of sour curd,
  13. 2 teaspoon of besan,
  14. to taste salt,
  15. 1.5 tablespoon sugar
  16. Gujarati kadhi tadka ingredients-
  17. 1 tablespoon of ghee,
  18. 1/2 teaspoon each of mustard and jeera,
  19. 1 red chilli,
  20. 7-8 curry leaves
  21. 1 tsp few whole coriander seeds
  22. 1 tsp methi seeds
  23. 1 tsp hing,
  24. as required coriander leaves

Method: 
  • Making of khichdi - Take 1 cup rice and toor dal, wash it and add in a thick bottom pan or steel kadai add salt, water, hing and turmeric...let it cook on slow flame....when it is half cooked add the tadka

  • Khichdi Tadka - Take ghee in the pan add 1 tablespoon of ghee, 1 small piece of cinnamon, jeera let it crackle add pinch of hing and pour this tadka in the khichdi and close the lid of khichdi and cook it on low flame

  • Keep checking the khichdi when it is cooking on low flame. You can also cook it in cooker...add the rice, dal, tadka and give it 3 whistles

  • For the Gujarati Kadhi - Take 1 cup of curd preferably thoda khatta/sour. Add 2 teaspoon of besan and salt as per taste and sugar

  • Use hand blender to mix it well and now add water...keep mixing while adding water...if you like thick kadhi add less water and bit thin then add more water....approx. half cup water you will need

  • For the tadka (most important part) - Take ghee in the pan, heat it and add mustard and jeera, 1 red chilli, 7-8 curry leaves, few whole coriander seeds and methi seeds and hing.

  • Pour the tadka in the dahi mixture and let it boil on low flame...keep stirring it and lastly add the coriander leaves

  • Serve the khichdi kadhi with roasted papad
